Super Bowl and Souper Bowl of Caring
The NFL Super Bowl is on Feburary 6th. The teams that will play in it are the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburg Steelers. The Green Bay Packers are from the NFC. They beat the Chicago Bears in the semi-finals to get into the Super Bowl. The Pittsburg Steelers are from the AFC. They beat the New York Jets in the semi-finals to get into the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl will be played in Dallas, Texas.
Weber is also having a "Souper Bowl". It is the Super Bowl of Caring. Each class to reach 100 cans or boxes of food will earn a Souper Bowl party with Mrs. Frisbee. There are a lot of classes that have earned a Souper Bowl party.
Weekly Debate: Should Cam Newton be Allowed to Play Football, By Lauren
I asked two students, Austin and Katherine, to debate 'Should Cam Newton be allowed to play football?' This is what they said, Austin said 'No,' and Katherine said 'Yes'. Here are the reasons: Austin stated, "I don't think Cam Newton should be able to play football. I have two reasons to prove I am right. One case is the fact that while Cam was at Florida, he stole a laptop computer. Then he transferred to a community college, then to Auburn. The Auburn Tigers paid Cam's father, Cecil Newton, for Cam's commitment to his team. But all the time Cam had no idea what his father was doing. He stole a laptop and his father was paid for Cam playing football. Why should Cam be allowed to play football and win four awards like the Heisman, Maxwell, Davie O'Brien? Cam's father didn't even show up to the awards ceremony. He knew he got paid for Cam's commitment."
Now Katherine's side."I think Cam Newton should be able to play football because he didn't do anything wrong, his dad did. It isn't fair for Cam to suffer the consequences of his dad's actions. It was stupid for Cam's father to be paid for Cam to play college football and he knows it. He probably regrets it. He could just pay back the money and everything would be fine. This problem would be over. I think it was also stupid for him to steal a computer. Cam could just pay for it ,then it technically wouldn't be called stealing. Cam should still be allowed to play football."
What do you think? You have just heard/ read a wonderful debate. Comment on who you agree with. Thanks.

My Principal: Mrs. Gibson
Dear Blog,
I interviewed my principal and asked her questions about being a principal and/or how she came to be a principal and this is what she told me.
She makes many contributions to the school. She sends out a group of teachers to help kids who need it. They also try out different ways of teaching kids and see if they are helpful. They also take data and they find places where the kids aren't doing well and they focus mostly on that area.
Her school was different than our school because her school had two small sections of kids for each grade. She sat in her desk all day, and all they had to do was work sheets. They could not work in a group or with partners. They had a bag full of milk for snack and they put a straw in it and they drank it. She never saw her principal at her school. She told me that if she could go back in time and be the principal of that school she would make it like Weber.

I asked her what she wanted to do when she was a kid and how she came to be a principal. She said that when she was a kid she really wanted to be a doctor, but that changed when she had to take her brother to the doctor. He broke his arm and when she looked at it she fainted. She then worked to teach parents and she liked that but she wanted to get better, so she worked at a preschool and she liked that. She wanted to get a step higher so she taught at an elementary school with first and second graders. There was an open job as a principal so she took it and now she is the principal at my school Irving B. Weber Elementary School in Iowa City, IA. She likes being a principal because she now gets to teach adults and kids.
I asked her what she does on a daily basis and she told me this: At the beginning of the day she directs traffic in the parking lot. During the day she answers parents' questions and phone calls. She also has meetings and deals with paperwork. She walks around and makes sure the teachers are teaching and the children are learning. Most of all she just makes sure everyone is okay. She makes many contributions to the school. She sends out a group of teachers to help kids who need it. This was the interview with my principal, Chris Gibson. If you want to learn more about principals and how they get where they are then interview yours today.

IFLY (Iowa Flyers)
When IFLY first started, Joe Favia coached the O Group. The O Group always practiced in the same place known as the "O-Zone." The O Group members, sometimes referred to as the Oranges, thought Joe was a really great coach and were sad when he had to leave for Graduate School.

Surveys by Yiwen and Joonsoo
Dear Blog,
We have asked our entire class of 31 people a survey of seven questions and these are the results. Please be aware that not everyone answered all of the questions.
The first question was whether you prefered the swim teams IFLY (Iowa Flyers) or ICE (Iowa City Eels). Nineteen people said they liked IFLY and nine people said ICE.
The second question was if you liked strawberries or mangoes better. The majority (16) of our class said strawberries and thirteen said they liked mangoes better.
The next question was what type of seafood you like the best. Nine said fish sticks, seven said salmon, tied at two was tilapia, crispy fish sandwich, tuna, and shrimp. One said crab and one said they liked cod. Unfortunately, three people in our class said they couldn't eat/didn't like any type of fish.
The fourth question was what school "specials" you liked the best. Art won with twelve votes, second was physical education, next was media, and music and guidance were tied with one vote.
The next question was whether you prefered the Crayola color names Atomic Orange or Neon Carrot. Nineteen votes went to Atomic Orange and nine votes went to Neon Carrot.
The second to last question was what your BIGGEST fear is. Seven said heights, four said spiders, three said they were scared of nothing, three people said snakes, two people said death, two said kidnaps, one said the dark, one said purple, and one said bees.
The final and last question was when do you go to bed. Most people go to sleep at 9:30 PM while others are scattered around the 10:30 mark.
Thank you for reading our survey of pointless questions. (:|) From Yiwen and Joonsoo
